WHEREAS, THE POPULATION OF MONARCH BUTTERFLIES IN THE MIDWEST HAS DECREASED BY MORE THAN 80% SINCE THE 1990S, AND THE MONARCH IS ON THE BRINK OF BEING LISTED AS ENDANGERED OR THREATENED UNDER THE ENDANGERED SPECIES ACT, WHEREAS, CITIES AND COUNTIES HAVE A CRITICAL ROLE TO PLAY TO HELP SAVE THE MONARCH BUTTERFLY.
MUNICIPALITIES IN PARTICULAR, CAN PROVIDE HABITAT AT PUBLIC PARKS,

WHEREAS THE CITY OF CEDAR RAPIDS IS LOCATED IN A MAJOR MIGRATION CORRIDOR FOR THE MONARCH BUTTERFLIES, AND HAS COMMITTED TO CONVERTING 1,000 ACRES OF PUBLIC LAND TO PRAIRIE, WHICH INVOLVES PLANTING MILKWEED AND A DIVERSITY OF NATIVE PLANTS THAT THE MONARCH BUTTERFLY RELIES ON FOR A BREEDING HABITAT.
WHEREAS, JUNE 17TH-23RD, 2024 IS POLLINATOR WEEK, WHICH PROVIDES AN OPPORTUNITY TO HIGHLIGHT THE IMPORTANCE OF CREATING HABITAT AND EDUCATING CITIZENS ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF MONARCH BUTTERFLIES AND OTHER POLLINATORS TO OUR OWN FOOD WEB AND SENSE OF WELL BEING.

THIS YEAR WE'VE GOT A LARGE PACKAGE OVER 29,000 FEET OF PIPE RANGING IN DIAMETER FROM SIX TO 30 INCHES.

THIS IS A HEARING TO CONSIDER THE PROPOSED PLAN SPECIFICATIONS, FORM OF CONTRACT AND ESTIMATED COST FOR THE KENNEDY HIGH SCHOOL CURB RAMP REPAIRS PROJECT.THIS HAS AN ESTIMATED COST OF $380,000.

THE SCHOOL IS NOT COST PARTICIPATING IN THE PROJECT, IT'S JUST OCCURRING IN THAT AREA, BUT IT WILL IMPROVE ACCESSIBILITY AND SAFETY FOR STUDENTS THAT ARE TRYING TO GET TO THE SCHOOL.
RAMPS WILL BE UPGRADED TO CURRENT ADA STANDARDS AND THE CONSTRUCTION WILL HAPPEN IN TWO PHASES.
THE FIRST PHASE BEING THE INTERSECTIONS ON WENIG ROAD NEAR THE SCHOOL AND THAT FIRST PHASE HAS A SHORTER TIMELINE, WHICH I WILL GET TO IN A MINUTE.
HERE'S THE PROJECT AREA WHERE THE INTERSECTION WORK IS OCCURRING.
ENGINEER'S OPINION OF PROBABLE COST IS 380,000.
BID LETTING IS SCHEDULED FOR TOMORROW, JUNE 12TH.
CONSTRUCTION FOR THE WHOLE PROJECT IS EXPECTED JULY THROUGH DECEMBER, BUT PHASE 1 BY THE SCHOOL HAS TO BE DONE BY AUGUST 16TH.

THE PROJECT TERM SHEET INCLUDES A $960,000 CAPITAL INVESTMENT, CONSTRUCTION OF (4) ZERO-LOT LINE TOWN HOMES WITH ATTACHED GARAGES.
THESE ARE THREE BEDROOM, 2.5 BATH UNITS.
THREE OF THE FOUR UNITS WILL BE AFFORDABLE AS REQUIRED BY THE CDBG GRANT THAT THEY RECEIVED.
ALL UNITS WILL BE EITHER ZERO ENERGY READY OR ENERGY STAR CERTIFIED.
CONSTRUCTION IS PLANNED TO COMMENCE SEPTEMBER OF 2024 AND COMPLETE BY JUNE 1 OF 2025.
